I began my professional career as an electronics design engineer. Faith and family are important to me. It was crucial that I lay a strong foundation for the family unit to ensure that all the members of my family were able to thrive in their field of interest. In my desire to impact people on a greater level, I began to pursue the counseling profession. Now I am a licensed professional, able to practice scientific and evidence-based interventions and motivational interviewing using integrative approach of Existential Theory, Adlerian Theory, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Reality Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in care and community with emphasis in traumatology to serve clients better using scientific clinical interventions and competent treatment to achieve the best possible outcome for recovery, healing, and motivation.
I have worked in mental health hospitals to provide great care for patients towards their safety and stability, equipping them with effective coping skills to manage self- harm behaviors, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, life stressors, trauma, and grief. My experiences at the homeless shelter and the hospital have prepared me to address painful sufferings such as trauma and abuse, unresolved grief and anger, relational and cultural issues leading to unhealthy boundaries, dysfunctional families, eating disorders, and addictive behaviors to various drugs and alcohol. I have experience in working with individuals with fear and anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, dissociative disorders, schizophrenic disorders, and personality disorders.
I believe that as a counselor, I facilitate change in an individual’s effort toward recovery and healing process. Counseling supports to build the individual’s self-esteem and courage for the present and vision and hope for the future, leading to effective functioning within family, school, work, and society through endurance and resilience. With my previous career roles as an executive officer and a design engineer, I can attest to how careers can play an immense part in the reconstruction of the personality of a person, boosting their self-esteem along with altruism, insight, and strong mental resolute.
My husband and I have been married for 25 years and have two children. Our son graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in computer science and currently works for Capital One as a data engineer. Our daughter is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from UT Southwestern Medical Center. My husband and I have both attended Stonebriar Community Church for the last sixteen years and are actively involved in ministries such as adult fellowship, Soul Care, ushering/greeter, and book group and simply social gatherings to nourish community. I enjoy reading books, admire nature and astronomy, and love to travel.
